When Value and Style Collide
It is always an exciting time when we have new wines being launched in our market so it is no surprise that these latest two wines, known for both value and elegance, have created quite a stir in Nova Scotia.
Larry Levin's winemaking CV reads like a Best in Show Pedigree, with stops as head winemaker in Mt. Veeder, Robert Mondavi, Estancia, Ravenswood, and Quintessa he has left his mark on brands all across California. But don't take our humble word for it, well known wine critic Robert Parker recently said “Larry Levin consistently produces wines filled with flavor that sell for a song.” We hope you hold these two wines in similar esteem.
Block Nine (Caiden's Vineyards) is a silky California Pinot Noir that profiles ripe cherry and berry flavours, with hints of sandlewood. Long and rich with some added spice and vanilla influence from the 100% French Oak, this is a wine that pairs as well with soft/medium cheeses as it might with roasted chicken, salmon or lamb. A Wine Enthusiast "Best Buy", it is not one to be missed.
The Ghostrider (Ungrafted Red) is a haunting combination of varientals from Lodi (yes, that place from Sons of Anarchy) where we see Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Syrah and Zinfandel fused together to form a complex, yet remarkable balanced blend. Black cherry, spice give way to light tannins and oak finesse, this is a wine that pairs very well with beef, lamb or chicken with a heavier sauce.
Available right now at the NSLC's flagship store "The Port" in Halifax, these two wines should span out to all 6 stores with a Port of Wines section by the end of the month. Don't delay in giving these a try, they're only available in limited quantity at this time.
